Mavericks Chief Executive Officer, Mark Thimmig, stated, "Miami DadeSchool District's commitment to address student and family needs in thiscommunity is clear and unquestionable. The name Mavericks High, D. Wade's Schools grew from a realization thatmany young people today have a strong will and an individual spirit, but alsoneed successful role models to inspire them on to victory. Dwyane Wade'scommitment as a leader concerned about education will encourage studentenrollment, achievement and attendance.
Mavericks High Schools will offer credit acceleration through customized,self-paced, mastery-based learning tracks, integrating all the elements of theeducational process, including technology-rich facilities, a highly-qualified,state certified instructional team, admissions process, individualizedcurriculum and learning resources, career services, incentives and a rewardsprogram.
Each Mavericks High, D. Wade's School will provide approximately 400 highschool dropouts with a school that meets their unique learning and life styleneeds. As many as 90 new local jobs within education will be created when theschools open in August of 2009. These schools do not compete for studentsalready succeeding in Miami Dade schools.
