(Los Angeles, CA) -- The world's second biggest fast food joint, Burger King, is taking steps to reduce the amount of sodium in its "Kids Meals." The hamburger chain says it is the first fast food restaurant to take steps to address this particular health concern.
The action coincides with lawmakers slapping more rules on restaurants, including a ban on artery-clogging trans fat to requiring calorie counts on their menus.
Burger King says it will limit sodium to 600 milligrams or less in its Kids Meals advertised for children under 12 years old.
The establishment has been criticized in the past for not focusing enough on health and nutrition.
Burger King was also the last fast food chain to eliminate trans fat from its food.
Michael Jacobson, the executive director for the Center for Science in the Public Interest, applauds Burger King's action.
He says they have some of the fattiest, saltiest foods out there and should lower sodium levels in all of its foods, not just Kids Meals.
